Cameron Carpenter Workshop. First United Methodist Church was where we were treated to a fascinating demonstration of the improvisation and transcription techniques of the talented young organ virtuoso, Cameron Carpenter, a student at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City.

A visit to George Buck's Organ Shop. We were treated to a tour of the G. M. Buck Organ Company, Inc., of Grand Rapids, MI. George Buck, owner of the firm and a member of our Guild chapter, and his crew, showed and explained to us many of the hidden inner working parts of organs presently being serviced in his shop.

Editing a Hymnal. Dr. Emily Brink of the Christian Reformed Church Board of Publications, and a member of our Guild chapter, explained the processes involved in selecting hymns and the editing involved in producing a hymnal.

Creative Hymn Accompaniments. Bethlehem Lutheran Church was the setting for a workshop on Hymn accompanying. In this delightful and informative session, Dr. Janet Hill, Guild chapter member, gave us lots of useful ideas for creating our own hymn introductions, and ways in which we may help convey the message of the hymn text to the singers in our congregations.

The new Letourneau organ in the gallery of the Cathedral of St. Andrew was showcased in a chapter Members' Recital as part of the local bi-annual Bach Festival. Those playing were: Marilyn Ossentjuk, Michael Bloss, Dr. Larry Visser, Dr. Gregory Crowell, Dr. Janet Hill, David Kinyon and Jonathan Tuuk.

Organist and publisher Wayne Leupold presented a workshop on a series of books he publishes for Teaching the Organ to Young Students. The session was held at the La Grave Avenue Christian Reformed Church. Some of the materials are in the form of easy organ duets for student and teacher, and the photo shows host organist, Dr. Larry Visser, assisting in the demonstration.

A Service of Commemoration and Celebration of the lives of our chapter members who had passed away since March, 2000, was held at Second Congregational United Church of Christ. The members whose memory was being honored were: William A. Burhenn, Julia Rooks Dieleman, John A. Kamyszek, and Helen L. Kastelz. Words of tribute were spoken and musical offerings were presented in the name of our departed friends and colleagues.
